its funny how they use that little clip to hold the slide stop inas for being better than cz52 maybe in 9mm but not the hot 7.62x25i've seen 4 types of tokarevs norinco 213 9mm with metal block in grip to use skinny mags (currently own)norinco 9mm with metal block inside of magazine chinese with fat grip i think it holds 14 roundstt-33 russia 7.62x25 (best looking) had different slide serations like aginsu knife
There were Type 54-1's also that were dual-caliber guns. They were standardType 54's in 7.62mmx25, and came with a matching (factory numbered to matchthe serial number) 9mm replacement barrel. The slide was marked 54-1 on theside. Early ones came with a separate 9mm-only magazine that had an internalstand off block to compensate for 9mm's shorter overall length. The later54-1's were shipped with 7.62mmx25 magazines only after experience bore outthat the 7.62mmx25 magazines would feed 9mm reliably with a minor ejectormodification.I had about 4-6 of the 54-1's come through my shop about 10 years ago, andall but one worked well. One stubbornly refused to fire ammunition about 80%of the time. I compared the firing pin to a W.W.II Soviet-made TT-33 andfound the problem immediately - the Chinese had shortened the firing pins inan effort to make them 'safer'. Installing firing pins of the correct lengthfixed this and made them very reliable. They all had rough machining inside,though.After a little experimenting, I found that all the TT-33 or Type 54's I ranacross would easily switch over to 9mm with a simple barrel change. Norinco 213 By Serial Number
The TT-30 was produced through 1936 with about 93,000 pistols being made. In 1933 two changes were made to the design which necessitated changing the name to TT-33. The changes were in the method the barrel locking lugs were machined and by simplifying frame design to reduce the number of parts needed. These changes did not get incorporated into the production line until 1936.
China adopted the Type 54 pistol in 1954. It was a direct copy of the Russian design. A Chinese made Type 54 will have the triangle arsenal mark indicating where it was made as well as Chinese characters with a year date and serial number. Another version commonly exported to third world nations will be marked M20 on top of the slide. These frequently turned up in Viet Nam.
Hungary issued their home made TT-33 as a Model 48 in 7.62x25mm. These will have the Hungarian coat of arms molded in the grip. The Hungarian state arms company FEG (Fegyvergar) also produced a limited number of 9mm pistols intended for export to Egypt in the early 1950s. The deal fell through and the guns were sold on the international market as the Tokagypt. This was the first time the TT-33 was re-barreled to use the 9x19mm cartridge. The FEG built Tokagypt were built with a thumb safety and the grips are different in that they wrap around the back of the handle. Neither Hungarian made TT pistols have been imported to the U.S. in quantity.
